Metro Homeless Center and Family Services, a 501c(3), not-for-profit organization, was founded in 1968 by the United Methodist Church. Having had many diverse programs throughout the years, Metro specializes specifically in services for homeless women and chronically homeless women with mental health and/or substance abuse issues.

Metro's Shalom House 25-bed Emergency Shelter provides 24-hour emergency shelter for women suffering from persistent mental illness and/or chemical dependency.  Women may stay for up to 90 days and will receive services to help them address health, substance abuse and mental health issues that will help them to begin to stabilize and rebuild their lives.  Our case management staff also works with each resident to ensure their access to community supports and resources.

The Shalom House 12-bed Transitional Housing Program provides women up to 24-months of transitional housing and supportive services to help them become independent and self-sufficient.  Upon completion of the program our supportive services coordinator will help them to find the permanent housing option that is right for them.  Graduates of this program are eligible to participate in our aftercare program where they may continue to utilize Metro's services once they are permanently housed.
